HOBART

Hobart 2015

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN NATURE AND TECHNOLOGY

The technique of woodcut is one of the oldest methods for creating a picture. The fi rst artistic xylographs were made between 1400 and 1550 as so-called single-sheet woodcuts.

Manfred Schlindwein uses the classical technique of woodcut. He is fascinated by the transparency of the print layers and the weightlessness of the graphic characters, the overlaying of individual segments of the picture.

In his piece of art for HOBART, Manfred Schlindwein shows the connection between nature and technology by means of contrasting warm and cold colours.

The right side of the picture has a strict border. The blue vertical line is not a separation but forms a link, a connection, which involved both sides. The colour of the strict border appears once more on the left side in a more playful design reminding of elements of nature.
